Mi 8 Helicopters

Mi-8/17 helicopters are built at Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant and the Kazan Helicopters, both Russian Helicopters companies. More than 12,000 Mi-8/17 helicopters have been produced to date – a record for twin-engine helicopters anywhere in the world. They have been supplied to more than 100 countries worldwide and racked up total flying time of about 100 million hours.

General information

The Mi-8 is a multipurpose helicopter and is available in passenger, vehicle and business options. It is intended for the carriage of passengers, baggage, cargo and mail in remote areas, as well as for special aviation works in various sectors of the economy.

Mi-8/17 series helicopters have won respect and admiration from helicopter operators around the world thanks to their advanced flight capabilities, high level of reliability and adaptability, ability to operate in a wide range of climatic conditions (from -50 to +50 degrees Celsius) and ease of operation and maintenance.

At the moment Mi-8 helicopters with various modifications are operational in over 50 countries of the world including some NATO countries.

Mi-8P

The passenger version of the helicopter is equipped with soft passenger seats, the number of which can be up to 28, provided with ventilation and heating systems. Illuminators in the passenger version of the helicopter have a wide rectangular shape. Emergency exits are located at the rear of the fuselage. Mi-8P can be adapted into a health and transport (small cargoes inside the cabin) versions.

Mi-8 MTV

Is equipped with more powerful engines, is able to take off and land at altitudes up to 4000 meters and fly at altitudes up to 6000 m. The engines are equipped with dust-protection devices.

Large cargos up to 3000 kg can be carried on the outside of the suspension. Cargo cabin is enhanced left and additional right door. In the rear part of the fuselage is a ramp. The cabin may transport cargos with total weight up to 4000 kg.

Mi-8 AMT

Mi-8 AMT - (export version is Mi 171) - a modern modification of the Mi-8 / Mi-17.

Mi-8AMT (Mi-171) repeats the design of the helicopter Mi-8MT. During the development of this type a huge experience in operating more than 12,000 Mi-8 family helicopters in all climatic and natural zones were considered. "Comfort and security!" - This is the motto under which this passenger helicopter was created.

Designed for a wide range of applications: transport of passengers and cargo, transportation of bulky cargo on external sling, carrying out search and rescue, evacuations. The helicopter can carry up to 13 passengers in comfort: low vibration and noise, comfortable seating, wide windows, air conditioning, availability of information and emergency lighting panels, fluorescent lighting. The helicopter is also equipped with additional external fuel tanks, and a bathroom.

The following models are currently in production: Mi-8AMTMi-8MTV-1Mi-171Mi-171A1 and Mi-172.  

MI-8 helicopter is one of the most efficient modifications of multipurpose middle class helicopter in the world, that has become the most popular mass-produced twin-engined helicopter ever.
